The reconciliation meeting took place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, under the leadership of the council chairman, Hon. Shamsuddeen Muhammed Sayaya. The event was held in Dangeza, Danmusa Local Government, and attended by key stakeholders and community leaders from Matazu.
Representing the Fulani side was Kacallah Muhammadu, a native of Matazu and one of the leaders of the forest Fulani. Muhammadu pledged on behalf of his followers to abandon violent activities, including attacks and kidnappings, and promised the release of individuals currently held captive.
In his goodwill message, the District Head of Matazu, Alhaji Iro Maikano, expressed delight at the development and urged both residents and the Fulani groups to forgive past grievances and embrace peace and unity.
Council chairman Sayaya described the agreement as a vital step toward reconciliation, stressing that the people of Matazu had forgiven the Fulani groups for past hostilities. He proposed the establishment of a joint committee between local authorities and Fulani leaders to provide a platform for dialogue whenever disputes arise in the future.
Some Fulani leaders, including Mannore and Alhaji Sani Yellow, raised concerns about alleged harassment by security operatives. They called for measures to guarantee lasting peace and fairness.
The peace accord marks a fresh attempt to resolve the protracted security challenges that have plagued Matazu and neighbouring communities in Katsina State.
